LTO Debunks Fake News About Driver’s License Rules for Senior Citizens
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a clarification regarding misleading information circulating on social media about alleged new driver’s license rules for senior citizens.
According to the agency, several videos and posts claim that new driver’s license regulations for senior citizens would take effect starting March 1, 2026. These claims include supposed changes to medical requirements, stricter renewal procedures, and adjustments to the validity period of licenses for elderly drivers.
The LTO confirmed that these claims are false and unofficial.
No New Driver’s License Rules for Senior Citizens
The LTO emphasized that no new policy or directive has been issued regarding driver’s license applications or renewals specifically for senior citizens starting March 1, 2026.
Any information suggesting new rules, additional medical requirements, or a different validity period for senior drivers is not accurate.
Existing Policies Remain in Effect
At present, the current policies and procedures for driver’s license issuance and renewal remain unchanged. Senior citizens who wish to apply for or renew their licenses must still follow the existing guidelines implemented by the LTO.
This means that there are no new restrictions or requirements beyond those already in place. Senior drivers renewing their license must still complete the CDE exam requirement, which you can review in our LTO CDE Exam Reviewer.
